1st Verse:
It's nearly dawn on a November morn
In the sky the clouds are grey
A fox crawls in from her nightly prowl
With food to last the day
She's tired, wet and hungry too
She starts upon the feast
Then nose to tail she sleeps a while
And the sun rises in the east
Chorus: And death is always close at hand
One day she will be gone
And in a world where people care
The fox hunt still goes on
2nd Verse:
See the huntsmen riding by
Mounted on their handsome steeds
They're waiting with their hounds until
They do the dirty deed
With the hunting cry and horns ablast
Through fields they make their way
The hares run scared, the birds take flight
Will the fox live another day?
3rd Verse:
The fox runs out in a panic now
She leaves the den behind
The hounds have scented on her trail
To all else now they are blind
The hunt slows up, they cross a stream
The hounds must get their blood
The horses go where they are told
Far along the tracks of mud
4th Verse:
The fox runs slower, tiring now
The hounds are closer still
She stands no chance against the pack
They go in for the kill
The cruel huntsmen lead their dogs
Back home with a tale to tell
A fellow fox finds the body there
A shrill howl sounds the knell
Final Chorus: And death is always close at hand
For now she's gone
And in a world where people care
The fox hunt still goes on
